I am
very pleased to say that this was an interesting and enjoyable event.
Entries were close to 300 and so a very successful night championship
with most of the categories contested. There were many positive comments
received from orienteers attesting to the good quality of the courses
and the organisation generally. This on what turned out to be the
wettest evening this millennium, was truly praise indeed.
My
sincerest thanks to Keith Tonkin who planned the courses and carried a
significant amount of the organiser’s duties and helped me gain an
introduction to orienteering event organising. Alan Wallis for always
keeping us on the straight and narrow and Barbara Lugton for her
unfailing endeavours on equipment and enquiries.
Team
GO turned out to support the event in what has become trademark style of
expertise and efficiency. Thanks to the start team under Christine
Kiddier leading the team in flawless execution, Dave Harper and the
parking team for incredible tidiness on the car parking (over 150 cars
parked in a rain drenched, challenging triangle of open), Peter Couldery
leading registration and download team culminating in only slightly wet
results printouts and some level of prize giving for a few souls who
stayed to the bitter end. Gary Strowbridge for generator and lighting.
Lastly, but perhaps most significantly, I’d like to thank 2 of our
junior members for their outstanding contributions on the night:
Christopher Couldery for his computer wizardry on download, and George
Simmons for his help at the start as well as a very impressive run! |
